Most of the people I've talked to or comments I've read seem to be very positive.
The Fans at ANN seem to think this deserves a solid 7.8 to 8.5 depending on the "season" or sequel . . . two other series and an OVA.

With that much more having been done, it probably is pretty good.
Personally I've only seen the first half of the first series . . .
