I think it's safe for me to say
that Hand Maid May is my personal standard by which I judge most all
other anime.
While it certainly is not the best anime, (not by a long-shot), it
is good, fun and fanservice-y.
It is a curious mix of Sci-fi, romantic comedy, tossed together with
a tiny touch of loli-com and general silliness.
Generally if I can
re-watch an anime as often as Hand Maid May, it gets a solid 7.5
or 8 from me. |
| When it was introduced in
2000/2001 it was just a bit on the risqué side but compared to the
latest offerings of anime from Japan, (2007), the fanservice is
actually kind of mild. |
In doing some research for artwork
and other goodies I found that there were a couple of novels that
were written about the same time as the anime. The anime was
actually based on the stories in the now defunct SONY AX magazine.
It's kind of funny to know that this anime is 7 years old as I type
this out, but upon giving it a re-watch, aside from the screen
aspect being the old 4:3, it still looks good and works in the face
of modern CGI. |
